Download your data
At any time, you can download a complete copy of everything you have in meil — email, calendar, contacts, files, and the rest — in open formats you can take with you anywhere. We call the tool WAYSCloud Takeout, and it's free to use.
In short
- Go to takeout.wayscloud.services
- Sign in with your meil account (you'll be asked to confirm your identity again)
- Choose what to include — everything, or just parts
- Choose how you want to receive it
- You'll get an email when the copy is ready, with a private download link
Your data has always been yours. You've always been able to pull information out of every individual part of meil — Takeout just gathers it in one place, as one complete archive you control. No special requests, no waiting.
What you can export
Everything you have in meil is first-class in the export:
| Content | Format |
|---|---|
| Email (all folders) | MBOX + index |
| Calendar | iCalendar (.ics) |
| Contacts | vCard (.vcf) |
| Files and Drive | original files |
| Device backup | original files |
| Documents | PDF / original files |
| Meetings and recordings | original files |
| Chat | metadata (rooms, membership) |
| Profile and identity | JSON |
| Activity log | JSON |
Everything is delivered in open, documented formats — MBOX, ICS, and vCard are the standards any other email service can import directly. Each archive also includes a manifest with SHA-256 checksums, so you can verify that the copy is complete and unchanged.
Do you also have WAYSCloud services?
If you use the WAYSCloud platform alongside meil (for example domains, servers, or storage), they're included in the same export when the accounts share the same identity. See the WAYSCloud Takeout documentation for the full platform list.
How to do it
- Go to takeout.wayscloud.services.
- Sign in with your meil account. You'll be asked to confirm your identity again — this extra step protects your data even if a session is left open.
- Choose what to include — your whole account, or just the parts you need.
- Choose how you want to receive it (see Delivery options below).
- Request the export. You can close the tab — the job continues in the background.
- You'll get an email when it's ready, with a private download link.
- Download within 7 days. Large exports get their own, extended window.
You'll get an email at every step — when an export is requested, when it's ready, and when it's been downloaded — so you always know the status of your own data.
Delivery options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Download here | One archive via a private link that expires. The simplest option. |
| Recurring / scheduled | A fresh copy that updates automatically — handy when moving or for ongoing backups. |
| Send to my own S3 (advanced) | Send the export straight to your own S3-compatible bucket. You provide the endpoint, region, bucket, and keys. |
Large files are delivered as individual objects with their own private links that expire, so even very large accounts export reliably.
What's not included
For your own safety, Takeout never hands back data that can't be exported securely:
- Passwords and secrets — passwords, private keys, and secret API values are never included.
- End-to-end encrypted chat content — only your own device holds the keys, so only your own device can export it.
Each archive shows exactly what was included and what was left out, so there are no surprises.
Security and privacy
- A new login is required for every export — a fresh identity check before any data is gathered.
- Encrypted at rest — archives are encrypted while they wait to be downloaded.
- Private links that expire — download links are impossible to guess and expire (7 days by default).
- Cryptographic verification — a SHA-256 manifest lets you confirm the copy is complete.
- Full audit trail — every request, build, and download is logged.
- You're notified on request, ready, and download.
Pricing
Takeout is free for all customers during the ongoing trust period, including full account exports, snapshots, and backups. Basic export stays free afterward.
Reassurance and transparency
Your data is — and stays — yours. Always.
Recently, some people have had the impression that the business has been sold to "big tech." We can rule that out. All services are running — and will remain operational as usual. We still choose to be open about our reorganization process, and we're therefore making it even easier for you to pull out your data whenever you want — and as often as you want.
