Send and receive email
Email is the heart of onmeil.eu. Here's how to write a new email, reply to one you've received, and use the features in the compose window.
Write a new email
- Click New email at the top of the left sidebar (or use the keyboard shortcut C)
- The compose window opens as a modal on the right
In the compose window, you can fill in:
- TO — the recipient's email address. Enter several separated by commas or spaces
- Cc and Bcc (shown as buttons you click to turn on) — carbon copy and blind carbon copy
- SUBJECT — the title of the email
- Body — the message itself
Priority
Next to the subject field, you'll find a priority dropdown:
- Important — the recipient's app may highlight this more prominently
- Normal (default)
- Low
Use this sparingly — if you flag everything as important, it loses its effect.
Attachments
There are two ways to add attachments:
- Upload file — upload a file from your computer
- From Files — pick an existing file from onmeil.eu Files
See Attachments for the maximum size and tips.
Follow up if no one replies
Click Remind me to set a follow-up reminder. The button has the tooltip "Get a nudge if no one replies" — you choose the number of days, and if the recipient hasn't replied by then, the email pops back up as a reminder in your inbox.
See Follow up on email for details.
Schedule sending
Want to send the email later? Click the Schedule button and choose when it should go out. It sits as scheduled in the Sent folder until that time, when it's sent automatically.
Rich-text formatting
Click Aa (or "Show formatting") to open the rich-text toolbar. You get access to:
- Bold, italic, underline
- Bulleted and numbered lists
- Links
- Inline images
- Block quotes
Send
Click Send or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Enter (⌘+Enter on Mac). Once the email is sent, you get a confirmation — and if you've turned on undo send, you can pull it back within 5-30 seconds.
Signature
If you've set up a signature, it's added automatically at the bottom of new emails. You can delete or edit it manually before sending if you want.
Receive email
Email you receive lands in the Inbox. The sidebar shows the unread count next to the name.
In the inbox, you can:
- Select an email by clicking it — it opens in the reading pane
- Filter with tabs: All / Unread / Flagged
- Search with the search field at the top (or the keyboard shortcut
/) — see Search email
Actions on an open email
Once you've opened an email, you have a toolbar with:
- Reply — reply only to the sender
- Reply all — reply to all recipients
- Forward — pass the email on to someone else
- Archive — move it out of the inbox while keeping access
- Report as spam — the filter learns and the message lands in Spam
- Snooze — hide the email temporarily (see Snooze)
- Move to folder — move it to one of your own folders
- Mark as unread
- Flag — mark as important
- Delete — move to Trash (can be restored for 30 days)
Bulk actions
To handle many emails at once, select them with the checkboxes and use the action row that appears at the top. See Bulk actions.
