Labels
Labels let you group emails across folders — for example Invoice, Travel, or Family. A single email can have several labels at once. Your labels stay in sync across every device you sign in on.
You'll find them under Settings → Labels, and in the sidebar of the email view under the heading LABELS.
Create a label
There are two ways to create a label:
From settings:
- Go to Settings → Labels
- Type the name in the New label field
- Click Add
From an email:
Open an email, click the label icon in the toolbar, and type a name to create a new label and apply it at the same time.
Apply a label to an email
- Open the email you want to tag
- Click the label icon in the toolbar at the top
- Pick one or more labels from the list, or type a new one
The label shows up on the email's row in the list, so you can quickly tell what it's about.
Rename or delete a label
Under Settings → Labels:
- Click the name to rename it
- Click the color dot to change the color
- Click the trash icon to delete it
Deleting removes the label from all messages
When you delete a label, it's removed from every email that has it. The emails themselves aren't deleted — only the label.
Filter by label
Click a label in the sidebar under LABELS to see all emails with that label gathered in one place.
You can also apply a label automatically to incoming email with filters and rules.
