App passwords
App passwords let you connect email clients like Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook and others without using your main password. They're secure, single-use passwords that you can delete at any time.
Use app passwords for external clients
Use an app password when you set up email, calendar or contacts in an external app. Most email apps detect onmeil.eu automatically - all you need is the app password.
How to create an app password
- Go to Settings → App connections
- Click New app password
- Enter a descriptive name for the device (e.g. "iPhone" or "Thunderbird")
- Click Create
Remember to copy the password
After creation, the app password is shown only once. Copy it right away - you won't be able to see it again.
Using app passwords in email clients
Most email clients automatically detect the settings for onmeil.eu. Use your app password wherever the client asks for a password.
Apple Mail (iPhone/iPad)
- Tap Create iPhone profile in settings
- Open the Camera and scan the QR code
- Tap the banner that appears and choose Allow
- Open Settings → Profile Downloaded → Install
Thunderbird
- Open Account Setup or File → New → Existing Email Account
- Enter your name, onmeil.eu address and app password
- Click Continue - Thunderbird finds the settings automatically

- Enter your onmeil.eu address and click Connect
- Choose IMAP if you're asked

To sync your calendar and contacts with Apple Calendar or Thunderbird:
- Use your email address as the username
- Use an app password as the password
- Server settings are usually detected automatically
If you've forgotten your app password
App passwords are shown only once, at creation. If you've forgotten yours:
- Create a new app password in Settings → App connections
- Update the password in your email client
- Delete the old app password
How to remove an app password
- Go to Settings → App connections
- Find the password you want to remove in the list
- Click Remove next to the password
This will immediately disconnect the device that was using the password.
Quick setup — skip entering everything manually
Under Settings → App connections there are three shortcuts that set up the app password, server settings and account configuration in one go. Many people use these instead of creating an app password manually.
iPhone / iPad — QR code
Tap Create iPhone profile. onmeil.eu generates a one-time profile and a new app password, and shows you a QR code on screen.
- Tap Create iPhone profile above
- Open the Camera on your iPhone and point it at the QR code
- Tap the banner that pops up and choose Allow to download the profile
- Open Settings → Profile Downloaded → Install (top right) and confirm with your passcode
The profile sets up email, calendar and contacts in one operation. The link expires in 10 minutes and works only once.
Can't scan?
There's a link below the QR code that you can open on your iPhone instead (for example, by sending it to yourself).
Mac — Download a profile file
Tap Download for Mac. You'll get a .mobileconfig file that sets up Apple Mail, Calendar and Contacts all at once.
- Tap Download for Mac above
- Open the downloaded file and click OK in the dialog
- Open System Settings, select General in the sidebar
- Select Device Management at the bottom. Double-click the onmeil.eu profile and click Install to finish
The file contains a new app password — you don't need to copy anything yourself.
Android — QR with app password
For Samsung Email, the Gmail app or other Android clients:
- Tap Create Android app password under Settings → App connections
- onmeil.eu creates a new app password and a QR code that holds it
- Scan the QR code with your camera and tap Copy
- Paste it when the email app asks for a password
Copy the password now
You won't see the app password again after you close the QR code. If you lose it, you'll have to create a new one.
