Share and connect calendars
There are two ways to share your calendars with others:
- Publish the calendar with a link anyone can subscribe to in their own calendar app
- Connect external apps over CalDAV — so Apple Calendar, Thunderbird, DAVx5, or Outlook shows your events in their own view
You'll find both under Settings → Calendar sharing.
Publish a calendar
When you publish a calendar, we create a subscription URL that anyone can add to their calendar app. They see the events but can't edit them.
- Go to Settings → Calendar sharing
- Under PUBLISHED CALENDARS, find the calendar you want to share
- Choose a level of detail:
- Busy times only — others see when you're booked, but not the title or description
- All event details — others see the title, description, location, and so on
- Turn on publishing — we'll show a subscription URL
- Copy the URL and send it to the people you want to share with
Help text in the panel: "Anyone with the URL can subscribe to this calendar in their app. They can't edit your events."
Revoke a publication
Turn off publishing in the same panel — the URL stops working immediately. If you publish again later, you'll get a new URL (the old one stops working for good).
Connect an external calendar app
To open your onmeil.eu calendar in Apple Calendar, Thunderbird, DAVx5 (Android), or Outlook with a DAV extension:
You'll need:
- An app password — create one under Settings → App connections (or directly from the calendar sharing panel)
- The Server URL, username, and app password from the Calendar sharing panel
In the CONNECT AN EXTERNAL CALENDAR APP panel you'll see:
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Server URL | The URL your calendar app should connect to |
| Username | Your email address |
| Password | Use an app password (not your main password) |
Click Copy next to each value to paste it into your calendar app.
Help text: "Use these settings to open your onmeil.eu calendar from Apple Calendar, Thunderbird, DAVx5 (Android), or Outlook with a DAV extension."
Step-by-step setup per app
Under STEP-BY-STEP SETUP you'll find instructions for each client:
- Apple Calendar (macOS / iOS)
- Thunderbird
- DAVx5 (Android)
- Outlook (via DAV extension)
Click the client you use to expand the instructions.
More details in CalDAV setup.
Publishing vs. CalDAV
| Publishing | CalDAV connection | |
|---|---|---|
| For yourself or others? | Others (one way) | Yourself (two way) |
| Requires an app password | No | Yes |
| Can edit | No | Yes |
| Synced | One time (the recipient refreshes periodically) | Continuously |
Use publishing to show your calendar to others. Use CalDAV to open your own calendar in Apple Calendar / Thunderbird, and so on.
Invite a guest to a single event
Want to share just one event, not the whole calendar? Invite them as a guest in the event dialog — see Events. For people without an onmeil.eu account, create a shareable link.
