Block a sender
If there's a sender you never want to hear from again — an annoying marketing company, a contact you've stopped talking to, or a spammer — you can add their address to the block list. From then on, all new emails from that address are filtered out of your inbox.
How to block a sender
- Go to Settings → Spam and filters
- Under SPAM, click Block
- Enter the email address of the sender you want to block
- Save
Blocking takes effect immediately for new emails.
What about existing emails?
Blocking only affects new emails. Existing emails from the sender stay where they are (in your inbox, folders, and sent folder) — you'll need to delete them manually if you want to clear out the history.
How to remove a block
- Go to Settings → Spam and filters
- Find the row with the address you blocked
- Click the remove icon next to it
After that, you'll receive email from this sender normally again.
Block an entire domain
Want to stop EVERYTHING from a company, not just one address? Use the wildcard pattern:
*@dårligbedrift.com— blocks every sender on that domain
You add this in the same place in the Spam list.
Block vs. report as spam vs. unsubscribe
| Situation | Use |
|---|---|
| Legitimate newsletter I don't want | Unsubscribe |
| Spam mail in my inbox | Report as spam (click the menu icon next to the email) — the spam filter learns |
| Sender who ignores unsubscribe requests | Block |
| Personal contact I don't want to hear from | Block |
When unsubscribing is better
Blocking only hides the emails — the sender still sends to you, it just goes straight to Spam. Unsubscribing removes you from the list, so they stop sending. Choose unsubscribe when the sender is legitimate and respects it.
For spam that you NEVER want to receive anything from: use Report as spam first (which lets the filter learn), then block if it shows up again.
