Migrating from an IMAP server

Move your email, contacts, and calendar from your current IMAP provider to onmeil.eu.

When should you use this migration method?

Choose "Other email account" in the migration menu if your current provider:

• Isn't Google, Microsoft, iCloud, or Yahoo
• Uses standard IMAP for email
• Gives you a username and password you can log in with

Before you migrate

You'll need the following from your old provider:

• Full email address and password
• IMAP server address (e.g. mail.provider.com)
• Port number (usually 993 for SSL/TLS)
• Details about SSL/TLS encryption

Tips

Contact your current email provider to get the right IMAP settings. You'll often find them in their help center or account settings.

How to start the migration

1. Go to Settings → Import in onmeil.eu
2. Select Other email account
3. Fill in:
   • Email address with your old provider
   • Password
   • IMAP server (incoming server)
   • Port (usually 993)
   • Use SSL/TLS (usually on)
4. Choose What do you want to import? (email, contacts, calendar)
5. Click Start import

Common problems and solutions

"Connection failed"

• Check that the IMAP server address and port number are correct
• Make sure SSL/TLS is turned on with your old provider
• Verify that the username and password are correct

Partial import

• Some providers limit how many messages can be fetched at once
• You can run the migration job again to finish it

How long does the migration take?

The time varies depending on:

• The number of emails, contacts, and calendar events
• The speed of your current provider
• Your internet connection

Info

Large migrations can take several hours. You can close your browser - the job keeps running in the background.

After the migration

• All imported emails will appear in your onmeil.eu account
• Contacts and calendar events will be available in their respective apps
• You can delete the migration job from the list under Settings → Import

Tips

We recommend keeping your account with your old provider for a while to make sure everything was transferred correctly.
