Import contacts

Switching from another service to onmeil.eu — or just want everything in one place? Either way, you can move your contacts over. We support the vCard (.vcf) format, the standard that every major contacts service exports to.

Step 1: Export from your old service

From Gmail / Google Contacts

1. Go to contacts.google.com
2. Click Export in the side menu (or select the contacts first if you only want some of them)
3. Choose the format: vCard (for iOS Contacts)
4. Download the file

From iCloud Contacts

1. Go to icloud.com/contacts
2. Select the contacts you want to export (or use ⌘+A for all of them)
3. Click the settings icon (gear) at the bottom left
4. Choose Export vCard
5. Save the file

From Outlook (Office 365 or desktop)

1. Open Outlook
2. Go to People (Contacts)
3. Select the ones you want to export
4. File → Save As → vCard format

For Outlook web (outlook.com), export through the Microsoft 365 admin center.

From Apple Contacts (Mac)

1. Open the Contacts app
2. Select the contacts (or ⌘+A)
3. Drag them to the desktop — this creates a .vcf file
4. Or use File → Export → vCard

Step 2: Import into onmeil.eu

1. Go to Contacts in onmeil.eu
2. Click the Import button, or drag the .vcf file straight onto the contact list
3. Choose the .vcf file you exported
4. We show a summary: how many contacts were found
5. Click Import to confirm

During the import you'll see Importing…. Afterward you get a summary: how many contacts were added, and whether any failed (usually because of missing fields or duplicates).

What about duplicates?

If a contact already exists (same email address), we ask before overwriting:

• Skip — keep the existing one as it is
• Overwrite — replace it with the new one from the file
• Create duplicate — keep both

The difference between vCard and CSV

Format	Use
vCard (.vcf)	Standard, recommended. Keeps every field — name, email, phone, address, birthday, notes
CSV	Older format, fewer fields. Used by spreadsheets and some older programs. We support importing it too, but data can be lost

Use vCard if you have the choice.

Import from another service

We also support importing from Google, Microsoft 365, iCloud, and Yahoo via OAuth — no files to deal with:

1. Go to Settings → Import
2. Click the provider you want to import from
3. Sign in with your account at that service
4. Choose what you want to import (email, contacts, calendar)
5. We fetch everything automatically

This method is simpler — you skip the export/import step.

Tips

• Import in batches if you have thousands of contacts — split the file up and import the parts separately to avoid timeouts
• Clean up first — delete duplicates and outdated addresses in your old service before exporting, so you don't have to do it twice
• Check a few sample contacts after the import to make sure the fields came over correctly (name, email, phone)
• Birthdays come along — if they were in your old service, they'll show up in your onmeil.eu calendar after the import
