Upload and share files
With the Files app you can store documents, photos, video, and other files safely in your onmeil.eu account — synced with everything else, organized into folders, and shareable in one click.
Upload a file
Three ways:
Click Upload:
- Click Upload at the top of Files
- Pick your file(s) in the dialog
Drag and drop:
- Drag the file straight onto the Files page — you'll see the text "Drag files or folders here – or click to choose"
Upload an entire folder:
- Drag a folder in — the structure is preserved, including subfolders
A progress bar appears while the upload runs. When it's done, the file shows up in the list right away.
Organize into folders
- Click New folder at the top to create one
- Drag and drop files between folders to organize them
- See Folders in Files for details
Shortcuts in the left sidebar
| Shortcut | Contents |
|---|---|
| My files | All your files, organized the way you keep them |
| Recent | Files saved, opened, or changed lately |
| Starred | Files you've marked with a star — quick to find again |
| Shared with me | Files and folders others have shared with you |
| Trash | Deleted files and folders, recoverable for 30 days |
Share a file with others
To share a file or folder with someone who has an onmeil.eu account:
- Select the file in the list
- Click the Share icon (or pick it from the More actions menu)
- In the share dialog "Share «{name}»":
- Enter one or more email addresses in the SHARE WITH field (comma-separated)
- Choose ACCESS: Can view or Can edit
- Click Send invitation
The recipient gets an email with a link. Once they accept the invitation, the file shows up in their Shared with me folder.
See Sharing and permissions for a full explanation of the difference between Can view and Can edit, and how to manage existing shares.
See who you've shared with
The share dialog shows Already shared with — the list of people who've been invited or have accepted. Each person has a status: Accepted, Pending, or Declined.
From this list you can change access or revoke the share.
Download a file
Click Download from the More actions menu to save the file locally to your computer.
Preview without downloading
Many file types (images, PDF, video, Office documents) can be previewed right in the browser. Click the file in the list — it opens in preview mode. See Preview.
Create a new document
Need to write something new? Click New document at the top of Files and choose:
- Document (.docx)
- Spreadsheet (.xlsx)
- Presentation (.pptx)
The editor opens immediately, and your content is auto-saved as you work. See Office documents.
Delete a file
Select the file and click Delete. The file moves to Trash and can be recovered for 30 days. After that it's deleted permanently.
To delete permanently without waiting: go to Trash, select the file, and click Delete forever.
Details panel
Click Details to see more about a file:
- Type, size, owner
- Created and modified with timestamp and person
- Activity — recent events
- Buttons to Open, Download, Share, Star
- A View full history → link for the complete audit log
See Activity and history.
Tips
- Use Files as your main storage for documents you're working on — that way they're available across devices and shareable in one click
- Star files you keep coming back to
- Share folders, not individual files when the recipient needs access to several related things
- Check Trash before permanently deleting if you're unsure
