Search your email
The search box at the top of the Mail view lets you find emails in seconds — no matter which folder they're in. Type a word or a phrase, and we show the matches as you type.
How to search
- Click the search box at the top of Mail (or press
/to jump straight there) - Type what you're looking for — it can be a name, an email address, words from the subject, words from the content, or part of a link
Search looks in:
- Sender (name and email address)
- Recipient
- Subject
- Body text
- Attachment name
Matches update as you type.
Recent searches
When you click the search box without typing anything, we show a list of your recent searches, so you can quickly repeat an earlier one.
Want to clear the history? Click Clear next to the heading.
Search operators
For more precise searches, you can use operators. Click Operators in the search box to see a list of everything that's supported — here are some common examples:

Tips
- Clear the search with the
×icon in the box, or pressEscape - Jump to search from anywhere in Mail with the
/shortcut - Search across all folders — search looks in inbox, sent, archive, and so on at the same time
- Use quotation marks to search for an exact phrase:
"prosjekt Alfa"
